Periodic Table of Video Game Characters

periodic_table_game_characters

Well, first their was the Periodic Table of Typefaces, and now we’ve got one for video game characters? Awesome.

Though some of these video game characters are a bit… unfortunate. I mean yeah, Iron Man is technically a video game character… but do we really want to remember him as such? Last year’s Iron Man game was horrific. Worst Game Everyone Played is right.

But I digress. You can check out the full size version of the table here.

Solid Embroidery: Hand Stitched Snake From Metal Gear

hand_stitched_solid_snake

Snake? Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake?!

From the creator, Julia, over on Craftster…

This was what I made for my brother (a hard-core gamer). It’s old snake from Metal Gear Solid. I haven’t played the game, but I’ve seen him play it… does that count?

Look at that mustache of steel!!

It does count Julia. Nice work.

Warp Zone Socks: (Insert Pipe Noise Here)

warp-zone-socks

Head on over to Ashidashi to pick up a pair of these awesome looking Warp Zone Socks for $12.

Now you can jump into some warp zones like your favorite 8bit Italian hero. These puppies are thick and warm kind of like hiking socks. They won’t make you jump higher or shoot fireballs but they’ll be sure to put some spring in your step.

I would buy these, but I already have the warp pipe and bricks tattooed onto both of my feet. And yes, it does get me all the ladies.

Wedding Cake Made From 80 Pac Man Cupcakes

pac_man_cupcake_wedding

Wow! Leave it to Hello Naomi, the queen of video game inspired cupcakes, to create something this wonderful.

You can check out some more photos of the cupcake wedding creation over on her Flickr page, which includes some close ups of the cherries and angled shots.

I’ll be honest. This is WAY better than my idea to have my wedding cake made out of 80 White Castle hamburgers.

Samus Cosplayer Has Geekadelphia Swooning

samus_cosplay

Meet ThaĆs Jussim, a 26 year old cosplayer from Brazil. Her glorious looking costume only cost her $350, and is lit up by over seventy battery powered LEDs. Far, surely this is your kinda gal.

According to Jussim, the suit weighs in at about 23 pounds. Her next project? Zero Suit Samus. *swoon!*

I put a couple pictures in the gallery below, but you can scope out the rest of the images on her Deviant Art page. Try not to fall in love, guys.

Atari Cake: Tastes Like Vintage Gaming

ataricake

Wow! Check out this delicious looking Atari 2600 Console Cake. It was created by Cakes by the Pound, a bakery in Southern California that specializes in ‘edible works of art.’ Everything is edible, including that woodgrain looking board. That’s a special icing! Unreal!

I think I’ll tap Philadelphia’s Whipped Bake Shop to make something similar, only I’ll insist that it be able to play Keystone Cops. Oooh, or Pitfall! How sweet would that be? Maybe get some of John Freeborn’s scorpions running around the bottom. Awesome.

Hands-On: Quake Live Open Beta (Windows)

293456-quakelive2-edit2

Yes folks, id Software’s Quake Live, the 100% free (advertising paid) and browser based edition of Quake III Arena, released in open beta February 24th. Forget all of your preconceptions of beta testing games as the title runs without nearly any hitches. Well, at least hitches affecting core game play mechanics, but we’ll get into that later.

The game retains everything you hardcore Quake fans out there love about the first-person shooter (FPS) on steroids and Muscle Milk. The ridiculously explosive weapons, the goofy man-grunts, and intoxicating trance tunes are all included for your late night (or early morning) binges of blink-less fragging. Find more details after the break.

Lost Planet 2 Announced: Scope Out the Trailer!

Ah, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. One of my favorite experiences on the XBox 360. Enormous enemies, epic boss battles, beautiful graphics, and an engaging story made it one of the best games of 2007. At least, in my fine opinion.

Well, the sequel is on its way. Consider yourself fortunate that you didn’t hear my extremely giddy squeal when the trailer popped up on XBox Live.

Our friends at Joystiq have the trailer on their site. You can skip to about 1:30 to start watching the actual footage from the game. Get excited people.

Prince of Persia Sackboy: Aww

prince_of_persia_sackboy

From the same talented crafter that created the super cute Hellyboy Sackboy, comes this Prince of Persia mashup. She’s managed to craft the sword, hair, scarves, hell, even the Prince’s claw.

I’m also impressed by her crocheted original sackboy. He looks fantastic, sitting next to the Prince there. I bet they are friends and go on little, adorable adventures. Though I’m sure the sackboy is capable of better dialogue than the recent gaming rendition of the Prince.

Check out some more photos below.

Bioshock Adam Syringe: How To Make One!

bioshock_syringe

Those of you who have played Bioshock surely remember the infamous Little Sisters and Big Daddies. Running around with those giant syringes, sticking dead bodies and sucking out their ADAM… which they would then consume.*shudder*

Harrison Krix, a graphic designer, prop maker, all-around-awesome-guy from Atlanta, created this fantastic looking replica, and shows off his step-by-step process over on his blog. Did you know that the syringes in the game are based on 20′s-era brass gasoline pumps? Yeah, me either. Harrison knew all these details, and created something spectacular.

Have a look.

The Plan: Move Down, Increase Speed & Reverse Direction!

space_invader_battle_plan

Just like our pal Ms. Frank over at Infinite Lives, we’ll never get sick of Space Invader related merchandise.

You can pick up Neil Gregory’s awesome t-shirt over on Threadless. I also really enjoyed his Photo Finish design. Finally, someone answers the chicken and the egg question… on a t-shirt.

Stained Glass Mario Mushroom: Wow

mushroom_2

As an advocate for video games as art, I love gorgeous creations like this. Amy Leigh Davis of Radiance Art is the creator of this beautiful stained glass Super Mario Bros mushroom, and brings up some deep, penetrating questions about our favorite fungi in the Mushroom Kingdom.

The classic Mario Bros. Super Mushroom–available by bashing your head into the nearest floating brick. Sure, you grow twice your natural height, but what about the headache? And how does one go about consuming any item of food the same size you are?

She’s right about everything… except questioning how to eat food that’s the same size as yourself. Give me an Eric Smith sized Wendy’s chicken nugget any day, and I’ll show you how it’s done. Nomnomnom.

But I digress.

Have a look at the Super Mushroom, which “pays homage to early Nintendo with its 8-bit styling. Look close–the red and the clear glasses both have subtle textures, and the white is wispy.” It’ll run you $175 on Etsy.
