Cool Skull T-Shirt Made From Mac Keyboards

key_skull_mock

This has to be one of the coolest and most original shirts I have seen in a while. It actually somehow is not only completely bad-ass but insanely geeky at the same time, which is pretty hard to pull off and this shirt does it well. The shirt is by Ruby Red who is also the mastermind behind the AT-AT Anatomy shirt that Eric previously wrote about in a earlier post.

What he did this time was he took the white keys from an extended white Mac keyboard and the black keys from the original iMac (the one with the half sized F keys) and used them to make a picture of a skull. From the outset this does look a bit 8-bit but upon further inspection your geek cred will rise exponentially. Get it here for the small sum of $26.13.

More pics after the jump.

ROACH Wreaks Havoc On Real Life Superheroes

jointoday_lairtemp

It should come as no surprise that if you have a group of heroes, there will eventually be a group of villains to ruin the day. It’s just a fact of life really. Otherwise, what would we need heroes for?  Which is why it shouldn’t come as a shock that the World Super Hero Registry has found it’s nemesis in ROACH (The Ruthless Organization Against Citizen Heroes) .  Their goal? World domination of course. Yet like any budding group of villainy, you have to start small. The group is lead by the masked menace known as The Potentate.  Says The Potentate:

These Superheroes were content on giving sandwiches to the homeless, “inspiring” children, and if they are lucky the occasional citizen’s arrest. Hardly super activites. The Potentate felt that one could not be a Superhero without a Super-villain as a foil, and thus The Potentate shouldered the burden of lighting the torch that will ultimately burn the straw houses of heroism to the ground.

Wow. That is evil. Super-evil if you ask me.  The ROACH website includes a list of villains, as well as missions for it’s members. They also have a recruitment video! So far their are only two missions, one of which is buying a T-Shirt, but the other one I found to be hilarious:

Find a local theater showing a summer Blockbuster that has a long line out front. In whatever way possible, ruin the film for that line. You may need to see the film first, so if you yourself are in line and see a fellow ROACH leaving, you may want to cover your ears.

This is what the Joker should have done in The Dark Knight! It’s obvious that the guys behind this site are having a bit of fun at the expense of their righteous counter-parts. However, this did get me thinking if there are any Superheroes in the City of Brotherly Love?

Coffee Talk: Memorial Day Weekend Hangover Edition

hangover-cat

Good morn — er, afternoon Geekadelphians. We’re sure you’re all feeling just wonderful on this beautiful Memorial Day and most likely woke up minutes ago. Since the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is just a week away, let the rampant speculation and dreaming begin! Now, we’re sure you know of some rumors floating around involving this year’s E3, but let’s take a look at a few others, eh?

Just last week a video leaked to Playstation Lifestyle which the site claims is Team Ico’s next project for the PS3. It could be safe to dream assume that we’ll hear more on this next week, as just about everyone who has played either Ico or Shadow of the Colossus is craving for more.

Also, 1UP.com recently revealed what they believe will be Sony’s next handheld, the PSP Go! Hopefully 1UP’s sources aren’t terribly reliable as ditching physical media (that means no more UMD’s, kids) altogether for a download-only business model probably isn’t the best strategy.

So after looking at some other (somewhat Sony-centric) rumors running amok, what predictions do you have for E3 2009? Maybe you have heard things from the grapevine that we haven’t. Well, don’t keep us in the dark and spill the beans in the comment box!

So, Remember Those ‘New’ Dreamcasts We Mentioned?

129609-sds

As you may remember, we enlightened you guys on ThinkGeek selling a large stock of never-opened Sega Dreamcasts a little while ago. Well, according to a tip sent to Destructoid, some of these consoles may not be exactly mint condition. ThinkGeek recently apologized publicly for the two cases (out of who knows how many sold) of tainted Dreamcast consoles and promises to deal with future cases in the same fashion.

So, if you do happen to buy one of these possibly used consoles from ThinkGeek (which are still in stock), don’t fret. If you simply contact them about your issue, it seems they will more than happily refund your purchase or replace your console. We just figured we would warn our fellow Geekadelphians in advance. Also, lets us know if you find a copy of Power Stone 2. That game rocked.

Geeks: 2, Television:1

This past weekend, both Dollhouse and Chuck were saved from cancellation. It would be hard to deny that both of these shows were saved by the intense support of their loyal fans. Whether it was hardcore letter writing campaigns, or buying a Subway footlong, it worked in favor of the fans. So far the only drawback appears to be a reduced budget and staff for Chuck which, if the writing and acting wasn’t as fun and strong as it is, would be like telling Michael Bay to direct Transformers without the explosions. Also Chuck’s season order has been reduced from the standard 20-22 episodes to only 13.  While more episodes would be awesome, I would assume that the show could be picked up for more if the season does well.  Which means that there might be some intense promotion going on between now and whenever the show returns. I wouldn’t be surprised if Comic-Con would play heavily into this. Dollhouse will continue to run on Friday nights.  I’m not sure if that’s actually a good thing.

Sadly, while Dollhouse was saved from going the way of Firefly, it’s partner in Friday night television, Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles is no more.  This means that it’s cliffhanger ending will not be resolved, which sucks. Who knows, maybe last minute changes or high dvd sales may help. Finally,  in a surprising turn of events,  Scrubs has been renewed for a ninth season despite the fact that the show ended last week with a finale as perfect as you could want. However, the show didn’t shut down the hospital when JD left so there are still some interesting characters to work with. This hopefully means that Jimmy the Overly Touchy Orderly may get more screen time.

Katamari Damacy Meets Shadow of the Colossus

This piece of video game art is absolutely stunning for one key reason. No, it’s not because it’s Shadow of the Collosus and Katamari blended together. It’s because it was created in MS Paint.

MS FREAKING PAINT!!!

This drawing was created by Simon Andersen. He has an outstanding Deviant Art gallery, full of other great video game inspired art. Have a look.

Geeky Links: LOL Edition

Pac Man in Real Life – Amazing. I need to do this around Old City.

This is Sparta – Best. Caution Sign. Ever. Full size image on the Flickr page.

Partyboat Fail – Make sure you listen to this with your sound on. Nothing like watching a bunch of drunk fools on a party boat sink… to the soundtrack of Titanic.

Puppy Dressed as Link – Adorable puppy, probably hates his life.

Best Coffee Shop Ever – Facebook prohibited? Excellent.

Zombie Obama – It was really only a matter of time.

Nerd Merit Badges – Awesome! We won a Boing Boing badge a few days ago, thanks to Dustin.

Today in WTF: Sarah Palin’s Twitter Background

A beautiful Alaskan landscape, some stars and stripes floating in the background, and Sarah Palin’s ghost rising from the mist, much like Donny Most.

Nice job there, Sarah Palin. It’s nice to see you’re experimenting with Photoshop for the first time.

Sarah Palin’s Twitter @ … well, Twitter.

Blu-Ray for the Masses! For less than $100 by Christmas?

One thing that has kept a lot of people from upgrading to Blu-ray is the price of the player. With dvd players now at less than $30 a pop, paying $229.99 for a low-end and  upwards of $500 for a high-end Blu-ray player seems completely ridiculous.
Right now only 2 groups seem to have joined the Blu-ray revolution, high end cinephiles who have to have the latest movies in the best format possible(who also do not care how much it costs) and gamers(that would be me!) who  purchased a PS3 and got one with their game system(which you now can get at a Gamestop for $349, so if you weigh the price its not a bad deal). But things are going to change and the companies who have been enjoying the profits of the high end format are not happy.

The reason is Blu-ray is coming to China! Yes with the technology being licensed and available over there, the Chinese will do what they do best make a really cheap player for half the price of most competitors! With the rumored price point being in the $99 bracket as soon as Christmas. Not only will we see cheap Blu-ray in this move, we may see my favorite region-less players that will pay anything on a plastic platter even those pesky VCDs. China has been using several hd disc format like NVD kinda a homebrew version of Blu-ray born and raised in China that stores 12 gigs to Blu-rays 50 gigs. But I am hoping this move will bring Blu-ray to the masses because that in turn will bring down those pesky Blu-ray disc prices.

Chuck Vs The Footlong

chuckvsfootlong

The season finales of both Chuck and Heroes will air tonight on NBC. While both shows would definitely benefit from a boost in ratings, Chuck is in a more dire situation. Chuck has not been renewed for a third season. With the ratings it’s been getting recently, the outlook for a renewal appears slim. I didn’t watch Chuck until recently, and I wish I had started from the beginning. It’s easy to get into, the characters are well developed and interesting (one is even given the nickname Captain Awesome!), it’s funny, and it’s just good television.  Also, it is very geek friendly.  Everything from the Brian K Vaughan comics,  Tron, and recently a Steve Jobs inspired villain played by Chevy Chase.

In order to save their beloved show, fans of Chuck have been writing letters and signing petitions at the very least to get a third and final season.  One of the more interesting campaigns is “Chuck Vs The Footlong“. While the standard letter writing is asked of by the fans, there are a couple of other steps:

5. On April 27th be sure to BUY A $5 FOOTLONG from Subway and if possible, drop a note in the comment box at the franchise letting them know you’re participating in the Finale and Footlong campaign to save NBC’s Chuck, of which Subway is a product placement sponsor.

6. Watch the finale LIVE if possible.

If you do nothing else…do the last two items on the list.

If you want to know more information about this campaign, check it out here. Be sure to tune into to Chuck tonight on NBC.

BUY IT NOW! The Orange Box $9.99 this weekend only!

orangeboxuse

Valve’s Steam usually has some pretty awesome sales on games and this weekend they hit with a doozy. The Orange Box in my opinion one of the greatest gaming bundles of all time and winner of 100s of awards, for the low price of $9.99 this weekend only on Steam.
So in my best Billy Mays impersonation “In this bundle you get three of the some of the best first person shooters to be released in the last 5 years, the bundle is as follows Half-Life 2: the sequel to one of the highest-rated and best-selling games of all time. This sequel unlike Speed 2 does not disappoint it definitely brings it, and raises the bar. The Half Life franchise is best known as being the thinking man’s FPS with a great story, with tons of depth. Team Fortress 2: the sequel to the grandaddy of class-based multiplayer gaming. And one of if not the best FPS multiplayer out there right now. Enough said. And Portal. Portal is in my humble opinion one of the best games ever. Described as a first person, action/puzzle game. Portal has not only became an internet meme with “The Cake is a lie” but one of the most original and addictive games to to be released in the last 3 years. It’s Valve after all with this bundle which normally retails in a store for $30 is not a bad deal especially when you can download Steam for free.”

I think with all the new game developers that are on Steam now, it gives their fans a chance to see some of Valve’s best work.
