The Plan: Move Down, Increase Speed & Reverse Direction!

space_invader_battle_plan

Just like our pal Ms. Frank over at Infinite Lives, we’ll never get sick of Space Invader related merchandise.

You can pick up Neil Gregory’s awesome t-shirt over on Threadless. I also really enjoyed his Photo Finish design. Finally, someone answers the chicken and the egg question… on a t-shirt.

Stained Glass Mario Mushroom: Wow

mushroom_2

As an advocate for video games as art, I love gorgeous creations like this. Amy Leigh Davis of Radiance Art is the creator of this beautiful stained glass Super Mario Bros mushroom, and brings up some deep, penetrating questions about our favorite fungi in the Mushroom Kingdom.

The classic Mario Bros. Super Mushroom–available by bashing your head into the nearest floating brick. Sure, you grow twice your natural height, but what about the headache? And how does one go about consuming any item of food the same size you are?

She’s right about everything… except questioning how to eat food that’s the same size as yourself. Give me an Eric Smith sized Wendy’s chicken nugget any day, and I’ll show you how it’s done. Nomnomnom.

But I digress.

Have a look at the Super Mushroom, which “pays homage to early Nintendo with its 8-bit styling. Look close–the red and the clear glasses both have subtle textures, and the white is wispy.” It’ll run you $175 on Etsy.

Michael Jackson as Mega Man: Splash Woman is Not My Lover

mega_man_michael_jackson

Hee hee!

Check out Oliver Barrett’s awesome Mega Man as Michael Jackson over on his Flickr page. Totally emailing this guy about getting a print. And while you’re at it, check out his portfolio on Go Media. Seriously, that’s some impressive stuff there Oliver.

For those of you who don’t get the Splash Woman reference, she’s the first female villain to appear in a Mega Man game. Which game? The incredibly hard and downloadable #9, baby. So good. So good.

Dead Rising Comes to Wii, Zombies Still Hate Delivery Trucks

dead_rising-van-pic-edit

Capcom’s Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop for Nintendo Wii shipped yesterday, February 24, and should be in stores today so you can fight the good fight against legions of undead… mall goers? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Capcom’s next cadaver-cleaving franchise (first seen on Xbox 360 with Dead Rising) revisits the story of freelance journalist Frank West as he ventures into a suburban town on assignment only to find it’s ridden with brain-hungry republicans suburbanites.

This Xbox 360 port plays much like its predecessor, but differs slightly in that it uses Capcom’s tried-and-true Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition engine as well as utilizes the Wii’s signature motion control. The premise of the game remains: After taking refuge in a shopping mall, which happens to already be overrun with the undead horde (go figure), you have only a few days to rescue as many survivors as possible before salvation arrives. Now if only there were celebrity zombies included in this rendition.

Minutemen: Watchmen Arcade Game!

minutemen_arcade_watchmen

Wow. How have I not come across this yet?!

This fantastic and rather well done Watchmen game plays a lot like classic brawlers like Final Fight, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe. Great classic sound effects and pixelated cut scenes.

Now, go play and kill some time before the Watchmen movie comes out.

Michael Jackson Auctions Off Impressive Coin-op Collection

mj_bad_edited1

Coin-op collectors and appreciators, grab a napkin or your sleeve as what you’re about to see is quite an epic collection of arcade cabinets, classic (and extremely rare) console displays and nerd memorabilia. Juilien’s Auctions, located in California, are holding auction sessions for the King of Pop’s treasure trove on April 22 to April 25 in Beverly Hills.  Fear not our fellow Geekadelphians for the auction sessions will stream live worldwide through auctionnetwork.com, which also allows for virtual bidding (technology is incredible isn’t it?).

The absence of his own game in either coin-op or console display form raises disappointment suspicions, but his collection is impressive nonetheless. So if you’re looking for somewhere to spend that tax refund check (what bills?) then why not on the original scissor hands from the 1990 film Edward Scissorhands?

Hands-On: Halo Wars (360)

halowars_logo_final_stacked

Last night, Eric and I sat down with the single-player campaign in Halo Wars for Xbox 360, set to drop in the U.S. on March 3rd. We played through the first three missions (well, at least that’s what we’re allowed to talk about) and watched Harvest get rampaged by Covenant troops. We met the new AI companion and the commanding crew of the Spirit of Fire. And how was it? It was … just OK. Hit the jump for our full rundown.

Starcraft Troopers: Combines Two of My Favorite Things!

Oh, YouTube user Cheesewiz27. You truly know the way to my heart.

This video, Starcraft Troopers, combines two of my favorite things. Starship Troopers and Starcraft. He’s dubbed over scenes from Starship Troopers with sounds from the game. Please note, there are some brutal battles scenes in this vid.

This only fuels my anticipation for Starcraft II… however, it does NOT make me excited for a Starship Troopers 4. The first one was epic. The recent two were horrrrrible. Yes, I did voluntarily watch them.

1UP Meetup at New York Comic Con

1up-meetup

New York Comic Con, veritably the nerd mecca, runs from February 6-8. Will any Geekadelphians be attending? Damn right! Not so much because we’re huge comic fans but because of the impressive gaming exhibit — the game industry presence at the NYCC is 50% larger this year! Furthermore, Garnett Lee and Tina Sanchez of 1Up.com, announced plans for a meetup!

Head over to the Stitch Bar & Lounge on Saturday, February 7th, from 7 ’til 10PM. You can read up on all the details over on Tina’s blog, here.

Also, let us know if any of you other Geekadelphians plan to show up so we can toss one back and high-five like only The Todd can.

Some killer icons in the are set to appear at NYCC, including Joss Whedon, the cast of Fringe, Adam and Andy Kubert, Bruce Timm, Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade, N’Gai Croal, Stephen Totilo… the list goes on. And on. And on. Check out the full guest list for yourself. Hope to see some of you there!

Pac-Man Pranks: Giving Geekadelphia Serious Ideas

Urban Prankster has an outstanding collection of real life Pac-Man chases. There are a TON of these on YouTube, but they’ve selected the very best.

How cool would it be to built a giant Pac-Man and Ghost, and run around Old City like this? That would definitely give the tourists something to remember.

Ideas are brewing. I’m up to no good.

Thanks to John Freeborn for the link, who will inevitably be an accomplice to this.

Ryan Crippen’s Custom Dig Dug Dunnies

dig-dug-dunnies

I like vinyl toys, but I’m not really into the whole Dunny thing the way some people (*coughTIMcough*) are. However these wonderful Dig Dug Dunnies by Ryan Crippen, the man behind Reactor 88, have certainly grabbed my attention.

Just look at them! You’ve got Pooka, Fygar, and the main man himself, Dig Dug.

You can read up more on these custom Dunnies over on Ryan’s blog.

HutchMe is a small clothing and interior design company that specializes in some truly unique products, from these awesome geeky belt buckles, to some gorgeous looking wall decals. You can check out their official website, or just hit up their Etsy shop.

Unfortunately, I stumbled across this great looking Space Invader belt buckle a little too late. It sold out of HutchMe’s Etsy shop on the 13th! However, the Mrs. Pac-Man buckle is still available. Can’t imagine it’ll be up for grabs much longer though.

Here’s hoping they restock those Space Invader buckles. Cause I wants one!
