I cannot believe that this will be my last time writing about a Kickstarter for Geekadelphia. It’s been a fun journey, right? I think I’ve done a pretty good job, but let’s not drift apart. I’m still writing.
The kickstarter for this final installment is actually dear to my heart. Mostly because I’m a journalist and I can remember my days in journalism school since it was really not that long ago. Reinventing J-School (short for journalism school) “is a hub for journalism educators.”
Developed by Melissa DiPento, within Reinventing J-School, “two specific services exist to meet the needs of journalism educators across the world.”
Both Academic Allies and the Diversity in J-Schools chat are currently in the pilot phase.
Thirteen educators are piloting the Academic Allies program currently. In the next phase of the program, my goal is to connect 50 educators. And further down the line – in the third phase of this project – I plan to connect 100 educators.
This process takes time, patience and listening to the needs of these educators interested in the program.
The Diversity in J-Schools chat is also being piloted with a small group of educators. My goal is to create a larger discussion, but maintain the intimacy of the small group chat. I plan to invite educators and promote this space to this community so there is an action-oriented outlet for discussion.
More participants equals more moderation and time on my end. In the next phase of this project, I would like to provide not only a space for discussion, but also mentorship and encouragement to educators who are ready to take the next step.
With your help, I can continue to focus on this endeavor so that Reinventing J-School becomes a trusted space for educators and students.
There are only HOURS left to support this project (I wish I knew about it sooner), so if you think it’s worthwhile in helping out you still have time to donate. And there are goodies, there are always goodies. Pledging $40 or more will get you a Diversity FAQ infographic. You’ll be able to share this visual with colleagues. By pledging $100 or more, DiPento will meet you for a Skype or Google Hangout “to discuss innovative teaching strategies or how to start a conversation about diversity at your school.”
And that’s it, friends. Now go forth and support your local Kickstarter projects. There are some really good ones out there and folks are so creative.
Catch you in the Twitter-verse.
