Celebrating the centennial of our beloved Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Jennifer Steinkamp’s alluring digital works of art, Winter Fountains, will light up the city. Steinkamp, a new media innovator known for her mystical interpretations of movement, nature, and perception, draws inspiration for this exhibit from the parkway, its history, and its namesake. The result? Four large, luminous domes lining the parkway, and tearing the fabric of our world to reveal a phantasmal universe, where a colorful clash of air, ground, ice, and lightning surge within.
These powerful projections of elemental forces were directly influenced by Franklin’s fascination for electricity. The ceremonial lighting of Winter Fountains will commence Thursday, November 30 at 5:30 p.m. Guests are invited to join the the Parkway Council, the Association for Public Art, and Jennifer Steinkamp herself at the Fels Planetarium at the Franklin Institute for warm refreshments, followed by the 6:30 inaugural illume outside Aviator Park for a brilliant beginning to an ethereal exhibit.
