I am a huge fan of independent comic book making. It’s nice to see characters not related to the mainstream companies.
Tara Flynn is a comic book writer based here in the Philly area. New and Improved is her first creator-owned series (drawn by her husband, who is also from the area) is now over 100 percent funded. Yay. Now the duo can begin to look towards some of their stretch goals, which would ultimately allow them to finish the rest of the first series.
In the near future, civilization has been rendered immortal due to a mutated food supplement. Human biology is frozen in time, and although society has been left impervious to aging and disease, the ability to heal from even the smallest of wounds has been lost…. in all but a few.
Set in and around Los Angeles, NEW AND IMPROVED follows Mallory and her 13- year-old daughter Charlie, whose exposure to a unique batch of the supplement has given them, and a small group of others, accelerated healing powers. After Charlie is captured for inhumane testing by the government agency who claims to be searching for a cure, the single mother must find a way to rescue her daughter while evading capture herself.
With just a few days left, you can still back this project and you definitely should if you find it to be worth it. By pledging $20 0r more, you can receive a physical copy of New and Improved issue one, cover B by Mike Capprotti as well as two signed book plates and a digital copy of the book. Pledging $50 or more will get you a physical copy of New and Improved cover C by Ariela Kristantina and Bryan Valenza, a set of 8×10 art prints of all the covers, as well as the perks mentioned previously.
