Music and the arts are universal languages; no matter who you are or where you come from, they connect with you. An incredible musical festival and conference, will be taking place in North Philly during the Labor Day weekend; that will bring peoples of cultures together while also celebrating those of MENA (Middle Eastern Northern African) descent. YallaPunk Festival & Conference is a three day festival of music, art, comedy, and workshops happening at several locations in North Philly. Tickets can be purchased online with several options for you to choose from. You can purchase a weekend pass for $40, Sponsor an Attendee (someone who wants to attend but can’t afford it) for $40, VIP Weekend Pass is $100(includes an official YallaPunk T-Shirt with and an assortment of goodies) or the Ultimate YallaPunk Experience(get all of the above and MORE) for $200.
YallaPunk Festival & Conference is a festival that celebrates MENA culture while also counteracting the negative stereotypes through music and art. YallaPunk also prides itself in being an intersectional and inclusive space free from sexism, transphobia, homophobia and bigotry. So people from all walks of life are welcomed to attend.
The three day festival takes place from September 1-3. Majority of the events take place on September 1 and September 2, with September 3 being a day to show appreciation to the staff and volunteers of the festival. On September 1, you can enjoy some music at Johnny Brenda’s at 6:00p.m. with bands Puzzlehead, City of Djinn, FlwrPnk, and Colonia to name a few. Also on September 1 at Johnny Brenda’s, Qunify will be there at 5:30p.m. to meet up and talk about being MENA in the LGBTQ+ community and more. You can attend writing workshops at Crane Arts on September 2 at 1:30p.m. Egyptian-American Poet & Performer, Maryan Nagy Captain will be hosting a writing workshop “House and Home.” After you worked on some writing, head on over to The Barbary for the YallaPunk Festival Poetry & Comedy Showcase at 6:30p.m.( Must be 21+) Plus there is a lot more going on during the festival and conference!
