The seventh annual Philly Geek Awards are this Saturday! If you haven’t already purchased a ticket, don’t hesitate any longer. Pick yours up today. Unsure about dressing in black tie? Didn’t get that dress or tux to the dry cleaner in time? What about participating in the inaugural cosplay contest which our media partner Billy Penn is hosting?
So here are the rules: Dress up as your favorite character from the world of comics, manga, TV, movies or, because why not, 18th-century colonial Philadelphia, and we’ll be there to stare at you with judgement in our eyes.
Literally. We’ll spot the best costumes at the event and the winner(s) will get a super cool prize pack from Billy Penn. And that’s it!
The event itself will be host to more guests than just our nominees and you, the general attendees. We’ll have things for you to see and do during the cocktail hour at String Theory Schools‘ Vine Street Campus. For starters, food will be provided by Miles Table Catering with fresh gelato made by STS students.
The Science Center – Esther Klein Gallery will be exhibiting drawings and sculptures by Maxmillian Lawrence. They’ll also have a kinetic sculpture moving to harp performance and other instruments. The Philadelphia Insectarium & Butterfly Pavillion will be showcasing adaptations of different types of arthropods and explore different types of defense mechanisms and strategies for camouflage.
Our friends at the Franklin Institute will be back with handheld electricity devices demonstrating different electrical currents and their “Dragon’s Breath!” The Spin Coalition of Philadelphia (SpinCo) will be performing an interactive hula hoop demonstration! Lastly, MaeBelle Varga will be in attendance exhibiting science photography including images from microscopes. Speaking of photos, as always, be sure to take your picture with Photobot3000!
That’s just what’s going on before the actual award ceremony. And there might be at least one more surprise in store. You’ll just have to see on Saturday. Need a ride? New Lyft users can enjoy 25% off your ride to or from the awards by applying code PHLGEEK!
Tickets are $40! Buy yours today.
