Throughout the next few months, Fathom Events is presenting Studio Ghibli Fest 2017 in theaters across the country. A different animated film will be screened each month through November with just two showtimes each: one dubbed and one subtitled. While the festival may be billed as a collection of Studio Ghibli films, it more specifically focuses on the work of Hayao Miyazaki. Whether you’re new to Miyazaki’s work or a long time fan, catching these timeless classics on the big screen is something not to be missed. Each of his films are masterpieces in both visual style and narrative that create fantastical worlds. John Lasseter, head of Pixar and Disney Animation, admires Miyazaki’s work so much, stating that “Whenever we get stuck at Pixar or Disney, I put on a Miyazaki film sequence or two, just to get us inspired again.” Miyazaki also has a tradition of including a breathtaking flying sequence in each of his films which is worth the price of admission alone.
