South Philly Comics, the beloved establishment found on East Passyunk, will unfortunately be closing its doors on September 3. In a statement released on the store’s Facebook page the owners said that they are not being forced but that it is a matter of needing to move on onto a different path after 5 ½ years of humbly serving the comic loving citizens of Philadelphia.
Co-owners Anthony and John were always ready to help a curious customer with a thoughtful suggestion of what to read next, debate a hotly contested issue of who would win in a fight Batman or Superman (it’s Superman, no amount of prep time will change that), and they provided a haven for the comic and table top game enthusiasts out there to gravitate to and meet new people with similar interests.
There will be a viewing on September 3 from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Come on by on this last day of operations. Make your last purchases from South Philly Comics, help a couple guys out and make it a little easier to move the backstock. A funeral service will be held from 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. where people will commiserate and say nice things about the shop as it closes it’s doors one last time. Following that will be an Irish wake/after party at Lucky 13 to drink the pain away and have drunken debates about who will win in a fight. It’s still Superman.
In lieu of flowers, please pay your respects to South Philly Comics by visiting the shop before it closes its doors forever. South Philly Comics is located at 1840 E Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia.
