In a weekend full of amazing experiences, the absolute highlight of my trip to too many games was the chance I got to sit down with Dennis Mohn, who made it out to Too Many Games thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation. Seventeen year-old Dennis was celebrating a year in remission from a condition called Ewing’s sarcoma, an extremely rare form of bone cancer. It was a busy weekend, but I’m glad that he took some time out of his busy weekend to chat with me about his experiences at Too Many Games as well as some of his favorite games.

What about Too Many Games do you find especially exciting?
The Cosplay Pro Wrestling. The finale was for the championship. It was a four way Mario, Luigi, solid snake and link. I believe Luigi won that one, I was so caught in the hype I don’t remember.
There are a lot of video game tournaments and events going on, are you planning on joining in any of them?
Yeah, I’m going to be playing in the Smash4 [Super Smash Bros] tournament!
That’s awesome, who are your favorite characters in Smash 4?
Cloud and Marth.
What is your favorite game to play right now?
I have two, one is the Hotline Miami series. The other is the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fighting for the PS3.
Are you a big fan of fighting games?
Not really, I play JoJo’s but it’s a very casual fighting game. I also like BlazBlue and maybe Tekken.
Do you have a favorite game genre?
I play all sorts of genres. Some action, a handful of RPGs… really all kinds. If I had to pick one, I’d pick platformers, it’s the genre I’m most familiar with.
Are there any game’s you’re really excited about?
I really want to play the Persona series, I just got a PS4 so I’m gonna try and play Persona 5
What is your favorite console?
I would say the Wii, since it was the first console I could call my own.
Very first game you remember getting you hooked as a gamer?
It was either Mario Kart Super Circuit on the GameBoy Advance, or the first LEGO Star Wars.
Are there any upcoming games you’re really excited about?
Cuphead! It’s coming out in September.
Did you try any of the games at the Indy Showcase?
There’s been a lot going on. I got to try one called Starry Knight Hallie I didn’t get really far in it. I’m going to play more later, I’ll have time to play more.
What’s been your favorite thing about Too Many Games?
The fact that I got to meet SomecallmeJohnny early. I got to spend a couple of hours and talk with him. That was the main reason I came here, part of my make a wish! I knew he was humble, especially when he said that he felt bad that someone used their wish to meet him. I told him it wasn’t the only reason I came out.
