Thursday night the International House is hosting a FREE screening of the 1988 John Carpenter classic They Live on 35mm in conjunction with the ICA exhibition Myths of the Marble. The group exhibition conceived and produced in collaboration with the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (HOK) in Norway, considers how the “virtual” has been engaged by a select and varied group of contemporary artists as a way to image and imagine the world as both a site of possibility and as a set of limitations.
This is an interesting tie-in considering the film’s story of a drifter who discovers the ruling class are in fact aliens managing human social affairs through the use subliminal signals and messages in mass media. As far as Carpenter film’s this definitely ranks in my top 3 and is re-watchable as it is quotable thanks to wrestling superstar Rowdy Roddy Piper who stars in the film dropping one-liners as he takes out the alien menace.
The screening takes place at 7:00pm and is FREE WITH RSVP. You can grab tickets here.
