Most geeks do not have proms that were very memorable, as being a geek wasn’t always as “cool” as it is these days. If, like me, you spent your senior prom staring at your calculator watch, counting down the hours until it was over so you could go to Denny’s with your friends, fear not. You have been given a second chance at having a truly wonderful time at a prom. Not only that, but you can also help out a great cause along the way (and no, we are not talking about that of the Prom King and Queen nominees.
The J-1 anime con folks are putting together a Cosplay Prom on Saturday, May 20. That’s right: instead of blowing $300 on a gown that you will never wear again or shelling out $100 for a rental tuxedo, you can come as your favorite character from anime, video games, or pop culture! On hand will be food, dancing, music by DJ TygerMouth with Traps & Trees, a special performance by Rachel Rota, and a raffle for free tickets to the 2017 J-1 Con.
Tickets are $15 or $20 at the door. If you add an extra $5 onto these prices, you will be entered in for the ticket raffle. A portion of the proceeds will be going to the American Cancer Society, with the rest going to J-1 Con itself.
