It’s that time of week again! It’s time for the Comic Roundup! In this edition, the X-Men make a triumphant return in X-Men Gold #1 and the truth is out in an dramatic issue of Spider-Man #15.
X-Men Gold #1 (Marvel)
Marc Guggenheim / Adrian Syaf / Jay Leisten / Frank Martin / VC’s Cory Petit
X-Men Gold #1 marks the official start of the resurgence of the mutants. At its core, the X-Men comics have always been about the relationships between many of the longstanding characters. In X-Men Gold #1, writer Marc Guggenheim breathes new life into the once stagnant franchise by exploring the interactions between some of our favorite mutants.
Things come full circle for mutant kind. A highlight of this issue is we finally get to see Xavier’s dream come to life. Speaking of full circle, Kitty Pryde enters the spotlight once again as the new leader of the X-Men team. Fans of the character who got to see her growth over the years will likely be pleased by this latest development. Heck, it’s been a long time coming for the character.
The X-Men rose from the ashes like the Phoenix Force and entered a new era. If you’ve been waiting for years for an X-Men story that’ll resonate with you, X-Men Gold is the one.
Spider-Man #15 (Marvel)
Brian Michael Bendis / Szymon Kudranski / Justin Ponsor / VC’s Cory Petit
Hot off the heels of a crazy multi-universe adventure featuring Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man #15 slows things down a bit for our web-slinging hero. As teased on the cover, Miles’ mom Rio Morales finally discovers “the truth.” You may be asking yourself “what truth?” Well, before Spider-Man went on a series of adventures, the story largely focused on Miles’ mom getting close to finding out her son is Spider-Man. Issue #15 marks a return to that storyline and oh boy is it amazing!
A more self-contained story is exactly what this comic needed. While the action takes a backseat, fans of the character will be pleased with the storyline development that really explores the heart and growth of Miles.
