When we launched the Philadelphia Geek Awards in 2011 we had one goal: throw a party to honor and celebrate achievements within the Philadelphia community. (And get fancy with all our friends, of course.)
Hundreds have attended the annual ceremony, mingled over cocktails among magnificent dinosaur exhibits, and made personal connections that last all year. Even better, last year’s awards enabled us to fund two fantastic projects to enhance the city. We’ve been honored to share the geeky stories of our city’s teachers, programmers, artists, creators, storytellers, and have tried our best to be an inclusive celebration of positivity.
After five years the awards have grown beyond what we could have ever imagined.
But our lives have dramatically changed too. And if there’s one thing we know, it’s dangerous to go alone.
We’re happy to announce that moving forward we’ll be collaborating with Technical.ly and Generocity to bring you future editions of The Philadelphia Geek Awards. We have a natural overlap when it comes to technology, and the overall theme of altruism and social good that embodies each year’s awards.
We’re excited to bring you an evening put together by a new and diverse team that aims to best represent the incredible things happening in our city. So the Philly Geek Awards will be back for the sixth annual this fall, details to come.
With all this change, we are also are currently seeking a new home for the Geek Awards. The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University has been a welcome site for curious geeks, and we’re grateful for their support through the years. As in the past, we’re looking for a fun place that can host a few hundred well-dressed geeks. Know of a perfect spot? Drop us a line.
Until then, keep creating. We’ll see you soon.
