Walk up North 3rd Street and you might notice that Philly’s innovative tech companies have set up shop: Weblinc, Indy Hall, Seer Interactive, Devnuts and Jarvus Innovations to name a few. Last year, City Council noticed too, and officially named it N3RD Street – with new signs and everything!
From co-working to hackathons to First Friday, N3RD Street is a bustling hub of activity. On October 2nd, over 30 Philly-based companies (and a few national) are throwing down in Liberty Lands to celebrate N3RD Street’s first birthday. Whether you’re a computer nerd, an art nerd, a science nerd, or are searching for your nerd adjective, come grab a beer, and toast to another awesome thing happening in Philly.
Jarvus, the company who led the campaign for the renaming, and CandiDate, a hybrid firm for recruiting and matchmaking, have organized this event not only for the good times. Alongside the fun, N3RD Street has initiatives going to bring about a better, techier Philly. Bamboo WiFi launches free WiFi for all of N3RD Street, and Code for Philly sponsors civic hackathons and coding projects that improve the city all year long.
N3RD St is one of the many moves the City of Philadelphia has made to support the burgeoning tech scene in Philly. Along with data-sharing from Open Data Philly and funding from Startup PHL, N3RD St makes the benefits of a tech movement in Philly accessible to everyone.
RSVP on Meetup.com or show up to Liberty Lands on October 2nd from 2pm-6pm. Feeling generous? Check out the Indiegogo campaign. In the meantime, let’s start thinking about what Philly needs next, a new intersection: N3rd St and G33K Ave.
