Back in 2005, a couple of street food aficionados in the East Village hosted a celebration of food trucks out of a garage to benefit New York City’s Street Vendor Project. Today, the Vendy’s have spread to large public spaces in NYC, LA, and of course, Philadelphia. This year marked the 5th Vendy’s in our mobile food loving city, benefiting both The Food Trust and the Philadelphia Mobile Food Association.
This may sound a bit odd, but one of the things I totally geek out about are well-planned events. And let me tell you, the people behind the Vendy’s know what they’re doing. This year’s event took place atop the JFK bridge, which turned out to be a perfect venue. Not only was the view 360 degrees of stunning, but it gave the enormous crowd ample room to spread out. The length of the event also ensured that not everyone was there all at the same time, so lines were anywhere from completely manageable to non-existent. The JFK bridge also provided plenty of shaded spots to escape the unseasonably intense June sun, as well as a welcome breeze off the river.
The beverage sponsors this year were Sly Fox, Santa Cristina Wines, and GUS Grown Up Sodas, all of which were hugely appreciated on such a hot day. And the food. Oh, man, the food. The trucks this year were all so fantastic that voting was nearly impossible. From Foolish Waffles liege waffles to Rigatoni’s crab cake, the 2015 Vendy’s were mobile food heaven.

Huge congrats to the winners and an enormous shout out to all the other trucks who were in attendance:
