40Witches, wizards, and muggles are all invited to come out to Milk and Honey to admire the works of over 40 artists paying homage to the world of Harry Potter. Kate Egan and Annabelle Buck are the masterminds behind this project, and it all started when they both decided to do Harry Potter pieces for an art show they curated in April. Local artist Robert Kraiza stopped by this show and started talking with the ladies about their work, and said he would be down for participating in a themed show. Egan figured if Kraiza was up for it, others might be as well. So she sent the word out through owl post (okay, it was the internet but work with me people) and was flooded with artists, local and far, asking to be part of the show.
“What was especially amazing to me, was that there were people from different states that were willing to ship pieces! It’s unusual for a cafe show to have that happen, at least in Philadelphia. I thought that was more limited to the gallery scene, but I guess it goes to show that fan love knows no bounds.”
Egan and a team are making things even more magical by making a window mural of Hogwarts, decorating the front room to look like the Great Hall, and will provide themed snacks, Butterbeer, and potions. In even sweeter news, all artists will receive 100% of the profits from their artwork that gets sold.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the opening night on June 5, the show will be running until the end of July. But if you’re looking to add some Harry Potter art to your walls, you might want to go sooner than later. There are no spells to go back in time. If you have access to a time turner though, you’re good to go.
And folks, if you help make this show a success, a Game of Thrones show could be in the future. Just think about that.
