Our phones allow for us to carry an assortment of tools around with us everywhere we go: a multi-platform communication device, calculator, language translator, gaming console, camera, music player, you name it.
But did you know that you are also carrying around a canvas and a wide array of artistic tools?
Some very talented artists believe this to be the case and, as such, they will launch their exhibit “Screens” this month. The exhibit will feature work created exclusively on–and for–handheld devices. Artists hail from Berlin, London, New York, Chicago, Minnesota, and, of course, right here in Philadelphia. Visitors will be able to see exactly how mobile devices can be used as studios, publishers, workshops, and exhibition spaces.
Things will kick off on First Friday with an opening reception, during which, composer Will Owen will perform a live concert that makes use of attendees’ phones! That’s right, you yourself can be a musical prodigy, all thanks to your iPhone or Droid.
The “Screens” exhibit will kick off with the opening reception on Friday, April 3 at 6:00pm at Little Berlin at 2430 Coral Street in Fishtown. If you cannot make it that evening, fear not, as the exhibit will be on display throughout April. For more information, check out the event’s Facebook page.
