I absolutely love clothes, but I absolutely hate dressing rooms. The amount of times I have walked, half dressed, onto the sale floor looking for a different size only to be locked out of my dressing room… I can’t even tell you. And how many times have you tried on a pair of pants only to tell yourself you will come back for them, or maybe look for the right size online, only to forget which style they are? Or even worse, miss out on the sale completely? Way too many.
A&G Labs, creators of 2014 Philly Geek Award-winning web project, Snow Shake, are an internal R&D unit at Allen & Gerritsen and, according to A&G, “explore emerging technology solutions to create opportunities and explore beyond the surface of emerging social and mobile platforms.” Fortunately, their latest technology helps to make Philly a little more stylish and the dressing room a little less scary.
MVSE has combined the best of the online experience with the in-store experience. With a little interaction with your smartphone, you can have a seamless shopping experience with little stress and less people seeing you in a bra.
How it works is you securely download an app to your phone and create an account, similar to how you log-in online to your favorite store. Once you have the app, you scan a barcode from your phone to the flat screen in the dressing room.
Once your app is connected, you start scanning the tags from the clothes you are trying on to the flat screen. Once your clothes are scanned, they are loaded on the screen. From the flat screen, you are able to request a different size or color, see which accessories look good with what you are trying on and see recommendations for other styles based on what you picked out. There is also a help feature for those times you need help zipping up or questions for your retail associate.
On the retail end, the associates are connected through the MVSE screen to a personal iPad and able to check off who will assist to prevent more than one associate heading to the same dressing room creating efficiency on both ends. It is a great way to assign a stylish associate or a stylist for a full concierge service.
Scrolling through reviews give you a chance to see what everyone is saying. Do the pants run small? Is the pink more of a fuchsia? Is this outfit a head turner? It is like having Amazon reviews right at your finger tips. If they don’t have your size or color you want, you can see if it is available online right from the dressing room. I love being able to see what each item is made of instead on the screen. I don’t shop with my glasses and can’t read a tag easily, but I want to know ahead of time if I am in for ‘Dry Clean Only’.
I love a discount, but I don’t love having to scroll through three million emails trying to find a coupon that doesn’t apply to what I want. MVSE gives you the ability to easily share on social media what you are trying on to receive a discount for that item! Finally, I get a discount for talking about style on Twitter! This was definitely my favorite part. While trying out the demo, the dress on the model was knocked down 15% for my tweet. The coupon was sent to my app and I had 24 hours to use the coupon, but I am still kicking myself for walking out of the lab without my dress. It was a demo and I still wanted that discount!
I still like walking in and out of a store quickly, so I wouldn’t always sign in if it were in a store with MVSE, but it’s great to no longer be scared of the dressing room and I am sure shoppers will appreciate no longer seeing my bra.
