Hyrule has never sounded so good. Ever since Koji Kondo set pen to a treble clef clad page, people have been enamored with the music of the Legend of Zelda. Each game featured new and unique themes that transcended pixels and entered the hearts of gamers for generations.
As it always is with iconic geek music, tons of people have gone and remixed the classics. But none have done it so well as Philly’s own DJ CUTMAN. His newest album, MeowMeow & BowWow, features the sounds of Link’s Awakening. The familiar tunes have been given a modern treatment and reworked into a wholly original work. It bounds from the frenetic title theme to a dropped down dungeon soundtrack. It is brilliant. Here comes some sacrilege, I’d love to hack my Gameboy cartridge to include DJ CUTMAN’s soundtrack.
Here, have a taste. It’s like a red potion for tired ears.
That all being said, you should be on the lookout for MewoMewo & BowWow dropping on August 31st at DJ CUTMAN’s recurring event 8-Bit Lounge. The Legend of 8-Bit (Lounge), at PhilaMOCA, is sure to be the chiptune record release party of the summer. Featuring free to play consoles, a potion bar, noms by Brulee Bakery, and beautiful pixel art by Squarepainter.
Surely it will be a wonderful night for all of you heroes of Hyrule looking for some fun and brilliant music.
Oh, by the way, we have two badges to give away to the first two people who chime in in the comments with their favorite Legend of Zelda song.
