I know, I know. It’s a Kickstarter post on a Friday. What is happening here? Gather round geeks, because this isn’t just any old Kickstarter. This is The Woman in Apartment Forty Four, a short horror film by Geekdelphia’s very own Arts and Entertainment Editor Dan Tabor.
You may recognize him as three time Geek Awards film of the year presenter, or perhaps as the guy that’s getting you into all of those sweet, sweet pre-release movie viewings, but Dan’s also a talented filmmaker in his own right. Take a read through Dan’s description of the project below, you may just learn something about film in the process!
This film will be an experimental transgressive mixture of Italian Giallo films from the 70s-80s and the French New Wave from the 50s. (Think Repulsion mixed with some Dario Argento and Jean-Luc Godard) The film is the story of a troubled woman, whose reality is dissolving around her into a fever dream of death and mayhem, as she copes with her failing relationship. The film will be in black & white and color, in Italian with English subtitles. The film will be professionally scored with some music provided by Power Glove, who did the score to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
The film stars local artist/performer Thierry Valentine and we are looking to lock down a date in the winter for production, once funding has been locked in place. The film will be shot by Director of Photography Extraordinaire Dave Deneen (AKA Mr. Deadguy), who will also be tackling the film’s makeup and gore effects. The film will be Associate Produced and overseen by local horror filmmaker Matt Garrett who will be bringing his years of experience working in the genre to this project.

This isn’t Dan’s first time funding a film on Kickstarter, so you know that you’re dealing with a professional. His last project, Annuncio, went on to win Best Horror Short at the First Glance film festival and was met with rave reviews. Help us help a guy who has already given so much to the Philly independent film community make his next movie!
