Medical and scientific illustrators are highly trained professional artists with expertise in both life sciences and visual communication who use those skills to create educational images. These artists bring images to life with pen and paper, as well as sophisticated animation techniques.
This month, Science on Tap brings David Rini in to chat about this fascinating field. Mr. Rini is a Certified Medical Illustrator and an Associate Professor in the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine and the Graduate Program in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
He collaborates with scientists, physicians, and other specialists to transform complex scientific information into visual images designed to communicate to broad audiences.
Science on Tap is a monthly series of informal presentations by scientists and other experts. They’re held at National Mechanics, purveyors of fine food and drinks, on the second Monday of every month and are always a good time.
