Geeks on Film: The Thieves on Blu-ray [Impressions]

The Thieves was one of the few films I regretfully missed at the 21st annual Philadelphia Film Festival this year. Luckily on Tuesday, Well Go USA released the film on Blu-ray and DVD in a great looking special edition.
The Thieves is a Korean film about a gang of South Korean thieves that team up with a Hong Kong crew to steal the Tear of the Sun; a 318-carat diamond necklace worth 20 million dollars from a heavily-guarded casino safe in Macau. It’s the score of a lifetime for the 10 thieves and as the cops close in, old betrayals and misunderstandings resurface.
The film features a great ensemble cast and plot very reminiscent of Ocean’s 11. However, where the heist went right in that film, this one goes horribly wrong. As each thieves’ story comes into play we realize almost nothing about this impossible job is purely business or easy for that matter.
Needless to say The Thieves is A LOT of fun.
If you’re a fan of either Korean films or heist films in general, I can’t suggest you pick this up enough today, from start to finish The Thieves will keep you guessing about just what will happen next.

Cool! Glad this is out already. I really wanted to see it at the Film Festival, but the timing didn’t work out. Thanx for the review!
