Another semi-frigid First Friday is upon us, and despite the chilly weather there are quite a few awesome (indoor) events going on this month.
Art in the Age
AITA is pairing up with the National Constitution Center this month for a Prohibition-themed opening with an exhibition of the era’s history with complimentary cocktails. Friday kicks off a series of throwback spirit-centric workshops, classes, and events throughout the coming months. Also on exhibition will be a series of illustrations by Philadelphia artist, Hawk Krall. The opening is from 6-8PM. Check out the Facebook event for more info.
Drink Philly is back on the First Friday scene this month with their new quarterly schedule, this time in conjuction with MilkBoy. Beer will be provided by Longtrail Brewing with food and live entertainment from MilkBoy. As always the opening goes from 5-9 PM—don’t forget to RSVP.
This month the Barnes Foundation is welcoming orchid experts, Venezuelan guitarist Juancho Herrera and craft tequila artisan, David Suro-Piñera for an evening of beauty, music, and of course, liquor. Each event has separate admission criteria. See more information on their calendar.
Pizza Brain/Little Baby’s
Together again! For February Pizza Brain is rolling out some brand new pizza art by artist Sharon Isabel Curley while their neighbors/partners in foodcrime Little Baby’s Ice Cream host “Karaoke in the Shower”. Which is exactly what it sounds like, minus the water. Free Narragansett beer while supplies last.
Our friends at Indy Hall are having an extra-special show this month celebrating art work inspired by music. MIA (Music Inspiring Art) includes pieces from over 25 artists working in mediums that range from painted wood blocks to pieces of clothing. The opening is from 6-10 and will be set to a soundtrack of the music that inspired the show. Head on over to Facebook for more information.
Taking the concept of the infographic to the next level, MAPnificent features a group of artists that employ mapping in its many forms to share data in a beautiful and compelling way. Mediums include paintings as well and three dimensional pieces that illustrate each artist’s individual representation of society. The opening runs from 6-9 and the exhibition will be on display until March 31st. More info on the event listing.
