Events at the Free Library: A Weekly Events Highlight

Photo via Visit Philly
Behind every geek community is a good public library. Fortunately for the great City of Brotherly Love, our libraries are free and open to the public.
So if you haven’t already made your way over to your local Free Library Branch, here are a few compelling reasons to get your reading glasses in gear…
TUESDAY 1/22
E-Gadget Helpdesk
Head over to the Central Library location and find out how to borrow e-Books, movies and music through your local library. Helpdesk staff will be standing by with free tech tips for your personal devices.
Location: Central Library (1901 Vine Street, 19103 | 215-686-532)
Time: 3:00p.m.
Teen Tuesdays: 3D Pop Art and Duct Tape
Oh, to be young again. These kids totally have it made. If duct tape were cool back in my day, I might have been a less morally deplorable Regina George.
Anyway, if you have a fun-loving teenage cousin/neighbor/brother/sister/etc, be sure take your favorite teen to this event. You’ll instantly become the cool Aunt/Uncle.
Location: Central Library
Time: 3:30p.m.
WEDNESDAY 1/23
A Cinematic Salute to The Buddha in the Attic: Arranged
Zoe Lister-Jones is a personal favorite writer/producer/actress of mine and the film, Arranged, is definitely on my must-see list. Arranged is a unique, unflashy look at the more personal side to arranged marriages in a modern metropolitan setting.
Location: Philadelphia City Institute (1905 Locust Street, 19103-5730 | 215-685-6621)
Time: 2:00p.m.
Kimono Dressing Workshop
Need I say more? Participants in this workshop will learn how to properly fashion a kimono. And yes, you really get to wear one.
Location: Roxborough Branch (6245 Ridge Avenue, 19128-2630 | 215-685-2550)
Time: 4:00p.m.
THURSDAY 1/24
FREE Adult Cooking classes
This particular event is part of a six-week course by P.E.A.C.H. (People Eating and Cooking Healthy) and The Food Trust.
The course covers nutrition, budgeting and shopping tips for individuals and families looking to maintain a healthier lifestyle. For more information about joining this course, contact Jamese at [email protected] or 215-575-0444 ext. 121.
Location: Lillian Marrero Branch (601 West Lehigh Avenue, 19133-2228 | 215-685-9794)
Time: 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m.
SATURDAY 1/26
Woody Allen Film Series
You don’t have to spend every Saturday morning alone watching countless reruns on Netflix! Go out into the world and catch a Woody Allen flick with your friends every month. (This month is Manhattan Murder Mystery!)
Location: Northeast Regional Library (2228 Cottman Avenue, 19149-1297 | 215-685-0522)
Time: 11:00a.m.
And to all you card-carryin’ members, we salute you!
