Kotoricon: Gloucester County College Becomes An Otaku Paradise

For the fourth year in a row, the campus of a South Jersey college will turn into an otaku paradise.

On January 12th, the Gloucester County College’s will host the latest offering of Kotoricon. With almost two months until Zenkaikon opens its doors in Lancaster, Kotoricon is the perfect convention to keep fans’ needs for video gaming, manga, and bundle packs of Guirren Lagaan satisfied.

Voice actors from several anime series will be on hand to meet fans, sign autographs, pose for pictures, and validate your name by greeting you in, for example, Squirtle’s voice. Among those appearing will be Michele Knotz (Pokemon), Stuart Zagnit (Pokemon, Twin Angels), Jamie McGonnigal (Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece), Bill Rogers (Assemble Insert, Comic Party), and Mike Pollock (Sonic the Hedgehog).

Musical performances will also be part of Kotoricon, with guests like The Asterplace, Platform One, and Sneko rocking the halls of the college with the unmistakable sounds of anime rock and J-Pop.

Other special guests include Philadelphia native Uncle Yo, a geek-specific stand-up comedian, local comedy group Underbelly, author CJ Henderson, and martial arts instructors Samurai Dan and Jillian.

Tickets for the convention can be purchased online here. Check it out!

So none of the anime VAs living in the Philly area were invited?

    Cold…

(before someone gets angry, this is meant tongue-in-cheek, but yes there are several folks in the Philly area who do VO work for anime and animation)

Looking forward to this con :-)

Quick update: for those who did not attend, you missed a very enjoyable convention. It was pretty obvious that this event is a labor of love for the staff, the attendees, and the guests. I wish I saw more conventions with this kind of passion for the genre.

I don’t attend many one day conventions, but I have to say that I am greatly looking forward to making sure I can attend Kotoricon 2014. Little con, but big heart. =-)
