Comedy Month Philadelphia Starts Today!

Comedy Sportz during Comedy Month (via Facebook)

Improv and sketch comedy are decidedly geeky affairs. You need to be smart to be funny and geeks tend toward the intelligent side of the smart spectrum. You need knowledge of current, affairs, pop culture, and insanely acute observational skills. Your mind must be nimble to pull the funny out of any and every situation.

If you’re interested in seeing some brilliant comedians doing what they do best, you’ll definitely want to check out Comedy Month Philadelphia.

Throughout the month of November, some of the best and brightest improv artists, sketch performers, and stand up comics will be performing at the Prince Music Theater.

First up is the 8th Annual Philadelphia Improv Festival which will be running from Nov. 7 – 11. Improv groups from all over the country are descending on Philly with the mission to make things up and hopefully make you laugh. If any of the performers ask for some ideas, go wild. Really, the weirder the better. They like that. The headliner for the festival is Live Nude Improv from Austin Texas. They hit the stage on Nov. 10th at 10pm. Will they be nude? Will they be improving? Who knows, and probably. You’ll have to check it out to find out.

What will you do when all of these brilliantly sharp witted performers leave? Have no fear because some equally hilarious writers and performers will be there to make you roll in the isles dying of laughter. The 5th Annual Philly Sketchfest will be running from Nov. 12 – 17. Headlining on Nov. 17th at 10pm is John Ennis from Mr. Show with Bob and David.

More than likely, you’ll find our friends The Feeko Brothers tearing up the audience with their genius sketches. Just so you know, they’re the reigning dirty sketch champions. You can check out the Dirtiest SKetch Competition on Nov. 13. You’ve been warned.

If you wanted your comedy with a little more local flavoring, don’t worry, City Spotlight has you covered.  All month long different acts will be featured from stand up to storytelling, sketch comedy to film, all from some of the most brilliant local creators and performers.

This November is going to be packed to the rim with great comedy shows. You really have no reason to ever be bummed. You’ll have to wait until December to embrace your emo side. For more info, visit Comedy Month’s official website.
