Villanova University, not Disney World

This Wednesday, Villanova University is hosting their 2nd Annual Graphic Novel Event, entitled Superheroes & Scholars. Hosted at the Falvey Memorial Library, the event kicks off at 3pm, and brings a wealth of fantastic local talent to the Philadelphia school’s campus.

Dishing out the keynote address for the event is Philly based graphic novel writer, John Arcudi. Some of you geeks might know his name from Dark Horse Comics’ The Mask, which was made into that classic Jim Carey flick. He’s written for DC and Marvel, working with Superman, The Flash, and other classic characters.

Learn about graphic novels and meet an important artist based here in Philly? Sounds like a fantastic time. The event is free, open to the public, and there will be refreshments.

Folks, come out, and if you can, come early; last year, the panelists at the first Graphic Novel Event spoke to sixty people, stuffed into a moderately-sized side room at Falvey Library, with little or no fanfare to announce it. Room will run out sooner than you think.

Show your support any way you can – spread the word, drag a friend along, or offer the Librarians suggestions/contact info for local comic writers / artists who’d be up for doing it next year. From working with them to put together the first one, and seeing them run with it this year, I can tell you that they’d appreciate every bit of help.

(And if a few hundred people showed up for Event #2, I think they’d really like that.)
