Star Trek: The Search For The Perfect Poster

trekfinal2

There’s been many people complaining about the final poster for JJ Abrams reboot of the Star Trek franchise which was released via Myspace.  The general consensus seems to be that it sucks.  Some folks said they’d prefer one of those “floating heads” posters instead. Others have given it credit for trying something different but still think it’s unsuccessful. It does give off a bit of an X-files vibe. They could have used “The truth is out there” tagline and it would fit perfectly. Personally I like the approach, and I instantly picked up the Enterprise so I have no problems with it.  There’s only so many poster’s I can take of Chris Pine smirking at me. I get it already! You’re sexy,  I’m not.

However, if you were hoping for a different look for the final Star Trek poster then perhaps Jesse Phillips‘ version may suit your tastes…

Phillips has designed posters for the Alamo Drafthouse as well as apparel for Mondotees.com.  One of which includes this awesome Iron Man illustration. In the case of Star Trek, Phillips kept the central focus of his poster the same as the other, the Enterprise. Yet Phillips instead shows a fully illustrated Enterprise still being constructed in space. I like both posters, but I would definitely hang the Phillips illustration on my wall.

In either case, I was planning to see the movie so the posters don’t make or break my decision. It’s just nice to have awesome artwork to go with awesome movies. At least I hope Star Trek will be awesome.

Is there are larger/higher-res graphic image of that poster by Philips available? It may contain a clue that is part of an online viral Trek game used to help promote the movie.
